International Society for Contemporary Music has awarded Maja Linderoth's Sonatform denaturerad prosa. The piece was composed 2014, just after graduating from the Gotland School of Music Composition during her first semester at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Sonatform denaturerad prosa is a choral piece (SATB div). It was performed at the ISCM Festival in New Zeeland 2022. We are sendihng Maja our congratulations!

Artistic leader and teacher for many years Per Mårtensson har been promoted to professor of composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. 

Per will continue to teach at the Gotland School of Music Composition.

We congratulate Jacob Mühlrad for the release on Deutsche Grammophon of his magnificent coral piece Time and for the world premiere of his first orchestral piece REMS by the Kungl. Filharmonikerna recently in Stockholm!

Jacob Mühlrad studied at the Gotland School of Music Composition 2010-12.

Dear Professors, Ben Richmond here, frikonst graduate from 2013-2014. "Delirium," a violin and electronics work I wrote for Ljudvågor, recently was reproduced by a team of dancers and performers from the New York City Ballet. I am honored by the experience of watching this music come to life again. A string player in the NYC Ballet found "Delirium" from a video of the piece I posted on Youtube seven years ago. This movie and performance from seven years ago was made possible by the expert guidance of the faculty and staff at Gotlands Tonsättarskola. I am very thankful to all of you for helping make this happen.

All the students are involved in the preparations for the Ljudvågor Festival 2021. The new website is up: ljudvågor.se.

Felicia Sjögren uses sound to explore the co-existence of times from the different levels of organic material that has been found in a big cave on Gotland where seal hunters lived some 900 years ago.

Felicia Sjögren studies at the Free Art, 1 Year Composition Course at the Gotland School of Music Composition / Gotlands Tonsättarskola.

Matthew Peterson come to The Gotland School of Music Composition in August 2008 to compose an opera. Matthew had studied composition in Bloomington, Indiana with prof. Sven-David Sandström and had received a Fulbright grant. In June 2009 there were sketches for a big part of the opera and one aria had been beautifully performed by Sofia Jernberg and the Norrbotten NEO conducted by Petter Sundkvist.  

During this time of the year our students are normally fully occupied to produce a music festival in Visby called Ljudvågor. In the middle of May all the ensembles and choirs that they have composed for are arriving – with the exception of GotlandsMusiken who of course are already here. The Ljudvågor festival usually offers around 50 premieres during 10-12 concerts.

2020 will be different. Our students have reorganized themselves to produce a digital festival. The website will be the new stage.

Under current circumstances, admission to Gotland's Tonsättarskola will be done using tools for online video communication. We'll probably use Skype or Zoom.

We have good experience from education using Zoom and are confident that this will work just fine. We will not be able to show you our wonderful school with the fantastic location in Visby's harbor. But we can still meet online

For the sixth year in a row the Uppsala Kammarsolister are collaborating with the Gotland School of Music Composition. More the thirty of our students has taken the opportunity to explore their ideas and compose for this fantastic ensemble and have their music performed by them.

The concert program includes works by Adina Forsberg, Anton Berglund, Ylva Fred, Elvin Matz, Kajsa Antonsson, Johan Ema and Julia Siljebo.
